Organiser rules
Working draft for review by a solicitor before public launch. Last updated 28 October 2026.
You run it
You must be 18 or over and responsible for the event on the day. You confirm the safety and legal points every time you publish, and we keep a dated record of what you confirmed and your insurer.
Discreet mode
Verified hosts can hide their name on 18+ sessions until people check in, and drop the exact spot a set number of hours before. It changes what riders see, nothing else. We always know who you are, the same rules and declarations apply, and we give your details to the police, a council or a court when the law requires it. Discreet mode is never available for anything on our prohibited list, including rideouts or stunts on public roads.
Before you publish
- Permission from the landowner or venue: council, Greater London Authority (Trafalgar Square, 14+ working days' notice), Royal Parks, skatepark or private owner.
- Public liability insurance of at least £5m, or the venue's required level (many councils ask £10m for parks and children's events). Club insurance often excludes organised events, so check.
- A written risk assessment and first aid suited to the event's size and risk (see HSE event safety guidance and the Purple Guide).
- No racing, timed runs, stunts or wheelies on public roads or pavements. Since June 2026 police can seize vehicles used anti-socially without a warning.
- Tell the police where needed (for example a procession under the Public Order Act, 6 clear days ahead) and check local bans on meets.
- A Temporary Event Notice or licence for alcohol or licensable entertainment, and council consent for street trading, leafleting or sampling.
Children
- A safeguarding policy, a named safeguarding lead, a missing-child procedure and photography consent.
- Anyone regularly coaching or supervising children needs an enhanced DBS check with the barred list. Since 1 September 2026 being supervised no longer removes that need.
- Under-13s are registered by a parent or guardian, who stays on site. Sessions for under-13s are for verified hosts only.
- Electric balance bikes and e-motos: private land with permission only, races under an ACU (or equivalent) permit with its insurance.
Challenges and giveaways
- Publish the terms on the listing: how many, who can take part, when, and no purchase necessary.
- Plan for crowds; get permission for public spaces.
- No alcohol to under-18s, no high-caffeine energy drinks to under-16s.
Scoring and records
Only check in people who are physically there. You cannot score yourself, and anyone who officiates an event cannot compete in it. Judged events need the panel set by the rules; measured and head-to-head events need two officials to sign off. If you are related to or coach a competitor, let another judge score them.
Download your registrations (riders, guardians, signed waivers, check-ins, kit checks) from your event page for your insurer and records.
